Welcome
Welcome from the Good Samaritan School Registration Team. Good Sam enrolls students in preschool through 4th grade, with 5th grade beginning in September 2011. Offering a close-knit learning community where students are valued, supported and inspired to excel, we present a broad-based, challenging curriculum enhanced by a wide variety of activities in physical education, music, art, and community service.
Good Samaritan School seeks students who are passionate about learning and will find success beginning with our nationally accredited (NAEYC) early childhood program through our current fifth grade year of studies.
We value diversity and look to enhance our school with different perspectives and experiences. Good Sam welcomes applicants of all ethnic, religious, and racial origin in compliance with law and does not discriminate in any of its practices. Good Samaritan is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES). The best way to understand the value of a Good Sam education is to visit our school while we are in session. Please contact the school for a visit. We look forward to sharing the Good Sam experience with you and your family.

ENROLLMENT POLICY
Good Samaritan School (GSS) enrolls students to provide them with whole-child teachings that have lifetime applications, and to provide them with an academic foundation for success at GSS, higher levels of education, and in life.
Non-Discrimination Policy
The GSS enrollment policy ensures non-discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of educational, admissions, and financial policies or other school-administered programs.
Enrollment Application Timing
GSS has a ‘rolling’ admission process. We continue to accept applications as long as space is available in our programs. Once your child has completed the entire admission process and has met all the criteria for acceptance, he is offered a position individually. Formal enrollment for the coming school year normally begins in March and is announced by school. Parent/guardian(s) must submit their application documents along with the non-refundable fees to the school office. Applications are prioritized and considered in the following order:
1. Currently enrolled students and sibling
2. Members of Good Samaritan Church and alumni
3. All others
Waiting List
In cases where enrollment isn’t granted or a waiting list is necessary (such as when a maximum class size is met), the parent/guardian will receive written notification. If a student is placed on a waiting list, the completed application documents must still be submitted to hold the child’s spot on the list. Once an opening is available, the parent/guardian will be notified and have one week to submit the non-refundable application fee. If the fee is not received on a timely basis, the child’s waiting list spot will be waived.
Enrollment Limitations and Probationary Period
GSS would like any enrollment limitations to be clearly stated and fairly administered. Certain limitations in educating students may determine whether or not a child is accepted. These limitations will apply equally to all students (both members and non-members) and, if accepted, every effort will be made by GSS to educate each child to the best of our ability. However, if GSS believes, in its sole and absolute discretion, that either the child’s or GSS’s best interests are not being served by enrolling the child, we retain the right to deny admission or re-enrollment to that child.
New students will be accepted on a one-semester probation period. If after one semester, during which time the parent/guardian and child are kept informed about the child’s behavior and academic progress, it is evident that the child’s behavior is detrimental to the other students or the child’s academic needs cannot be met, the student will be denied continued enrollment.
Enrollment Termination
Student enrollment may be terminated if the GSS Financial Policy is not followed or if the student poses a health or safety concern to others and can no longer benefit from GSS programs as determined by the Head of School, Staff, Board of Trustees, and parent/guardian(s). GSS Enrollment Policy 3/8/2011
Educational Assessments
If a student has been accepted to GSS, the school retains the right to administer a test(s), which may best help the school diagnose the student’s educational abilities. The tests will not be used to determine eligibility for enrollment, but rather as a tool to better assist the school and parents in meeting the needs of the student.
Kindergarten Screening
All children enrolling in Kindergarten must complete a Kindergarten Readiness screening conducted by designated GSS personnel, normally the Kindergarten teacher. In addition, the results of any Kindergarten Readiness screening conducted by a local public school (or a comparable screening), which indicates readiness for Kindergarten, must also be submitted.
Age of Entrance: Kindergarten to Grade 5
-
Kindergarten: Children must reach the age of five before September 1, 2011 to be eligible for admission to Kindergarten.
-
Grade 1-5: Children must be six through 10 years old by September 1, 2011.
Early Admissions: Kindergarten or Grade 1
-
Kindergarten: Children who turn five years old between September 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 may be considered for early admission into Kindergarten.
-
Grade 1: Children who turn six years old between September 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 may be considered for early admission into Grade 1.
The following requirements for early admissions must be met:
The parent/guardian must submit a written letter requesting consideration for early admission and giving the reasons why they desire such admission.
The Head of School and either the Kindergarten or 1st Grade teacher will conduct a personal interview of the parent/guardian and child.
A readiness test will be administered by GSS.
The parent/guardian agrees that any early admission is subject to review of their child’s progress after 30 days, and once per quarter after that point. A child who is granted early admission to Kindergarten and who successfully completes Kindergarten will be permitted to advance to Grade 1.
Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Admission
Students who are toilet-trained and 35 months old (2.9 years) or 4 years old before September 1, 2011 are eligible to enroll in the GSS Preschool program. Students who will reach their 5th birthday between September 30, 2011 and December 31, 2011 are eligible to enroll in the GSS Pre-Kindergarten program.
Special Needs
Students who have special needs or, who once enrolled, demonstrate the need for special assistance, may require testing (not provided by GSS) conducted by an outside consultant to help determine the learning needs of the child. If it is determined that the needs of the child can be adequately addressed by the Preschool staff, an individualized learning plan will be developed by the teacher, parent, and other professionals as necessary. Although every effort will be made to accommodate students with special needs, GSS reserves the right to deny or withdraw enrollment, if the consultation demonstrates we cannot reasonably meet the needs of the child.
If you have any additional questions regarding the GSS Enrollment Policy, please contact the school office at 541-758-1255 or schoolgs@goodsamchurch-episcopal.org.
Priority Registration for currently enrolled families is from March 1st to March 11th, 2011. Open Registration for all new families begins March 14th, 2011. Completed application and admissions packets are accepted in the school office at anytime. Enrollment in our programs is possible at any time throughout the school year, when space is available.
We offer a standing Open Invitation to visit Good Samaritan School to tour our facilities, visit classes in session, and meet the teachers and staffs. Weekly tours are conducted in early spring. Individual tours can be scheduled by appointment throughout the academic year. Children are always welcome and encouraged to join their parents on visits.
Please contact School registrar, Christi Brenneman, by phone at 541-758-1255 or email at schoolgs@goodsamchurch-episcopal.org, for further information and clarification regarding admissions and registration and to schedule a tour of Good Samaritan School.
